On the 14th May the GLA and Crossrail hosted a tour of the Crossrail construction sites in London for BID representatives. BIDs agreed that it was a great opportunity to see how the work was progressing and how construction is affecting businesses in the areas around Paddington, Tottenham Court Road, and Liverpool Street Stations. Disruption is expected around the stations and will be quite significant over the next few years. For those of you that were unable to make this tour another can be arranged if there is enough demand

The GLA meeting notes from 27th May
Anthony Browne chaired the GLA Roundtable with BIDs and business partnerships at City Hall on the 27th May. There was a presentation from GLA Economics about the prospects for the UK and global economies, with pertinent analysis and forecasts for the London economy. Experts are fairly unanimous in seeing a slow but steady recovery from the recession period. London has fared better than the rest of the UK in the recent recession – a new phenomenon which GLA Economics believe is due in part to the weakening of the pound, which has driven tourist and retail revenues. Renewal challenges Better Bankside and Inholborn BIDs reported on their recent renewals. Both said that the problems with out of date ratings lists were very time consuming to rectify, and all around the table agreed that the system needs improvement. So much time and energy is being spent identifying who the voting businesses are and how to ensure that the proposals and ballots reach the relevant personnel. GLA Members of the GLA Group reported on progress to the Manifesto for supporting BIDs in London, including much improved communications with TfL and the Mayor’s recent letter to the local authorities asking them to share his prioritisation of the BIDs agenda.
